News Accessible politics: we are campaigning for more inclusive politics
SWISS TXT launched the «Accessible Politics» campaign to raise awareness about accessible communication in politics and increase demand for accessible services in public authorities at cantonal and communal level.
The campaign attracted a great deal of interest and many politicians signed up to support our campaign with a statement and their picture. The campaign started with the first testimonials on LinkedIn end of August and is still running. Well-known politicians such as members of the National Council Islam Alijaj, Philipp Kutter, Gabriela Suter and Marc Jost have been strongly advocating for the campaign. So far, 23 politicians and chairs of associations from all over Switzerland have taken part.
A key aspect of our demands is to guarantee access to parliamentary sessions, press conferences and public information for deaf people and people with hearing impairments. Today, these live streams offer little or no access, as there are no live subtitles or sign language interpretation. To date, it is not stipulated by Swiss law that parliamentary services must offer accessible live streams. It is precisely these parliamentary services that need to be convinced, and we want to get the ball rolling with our campaign. SWISS TXT is committed to #AccessiblePolitics!
