The public want to be able to consume the content of SRG at any time and anywhere, and they want it to be error-free and in a form optimised for the device they are using. To ensure these high expectations are met, applications must be tested in detail prior to publication.

Developers of multimedia solutions are faced with the challenge of the large number of devices available on the market. Each smartphone, tablet or TV set presents and plays the content slightly differently.

Background

Testing multimedia solutions is time-consuming and resource-heavy, but is essential for successful publications and to ensure the public is ultimately satisfied. This task is made even harder because of the different video players on each device type, and the qualitative difference in video streaming with mobile use.

Implementation

SWISS TXT is guided by the device market, ensuring a representative selection of devices is available. Testing our solutions forms an integral part of our agile project management. For HbbTV solutions, an automated, centralised and synchronous control of TV sets is available thanks to the “Suitest” tool for HbbTV tests.

Result

Direct and rapid feedback from the test centre to the development department allows for short bug-fixing cycles. Simultaneous testing of a test case on all defined devices results in higher quality even for regression tests. This is to ensure a higher quality for our customers and the public at all times
