#ACCESSIBLEPOLITICS

The livestreams on the parliament websites don't currently offer access to people who are deaf or hard of hearing as there are no live subtitles or sign language interpretation. In May 2024 it was decided that live broadcasts of debates in the Swiss parliament would in future be subtitled live.

This is an important step, but it's not enough. Cantonal and municipal parliamentary sessions should follow suit, and the debates also need to be made accessible in sign language. This is the only way that people who are deaf or hard of hearing can participate in political processes and it's the only way to ensure true democracy.

Our solution for accessible political livestreams
We offer high-quality solutions to make political livestreams accessible. Our system enables both live text and live sign language interpretation, with various quality and cost levels. The live text (once revised) can also be used to generate a log or as subtitles for media centres and similar. SWISS TXT already provides this service successfully for the Grand Council of Geneva and it is being piloted in the parliament in Ticino.
