In brief Helios

Citizens are increasingly taking on the role of journalists. They can record live events such as accidents, attacks or demonstrations using their smartphones and then flood social media with such videos. This raw material, which would actually be a boon for journalists, is not subject to any regulations. Authenticity, trustworthiness of the sender, image rights and their remuneration remain an uncertainty.

Description Aims and implementation of the Helios platform

  • Intelligent workflows – based on blockchain network architecture – ensure that content can be uploaded anonymously and used via a single trusted video exchange platform.

  • Publishers can access the content directly via the mobile app and edit the material (cut it, set it to music and add text, etc.) in a user-friendly and media-compatible manner.

  • The content is reliable as it cannot be manipulated thanks to the blockchain technology. The platform features digital rights management (DRM); safeguarding of privacy is ensured.

  • Data are protected and are billed via “credits”. “Citizen journalists” also benefit from this. Remuneration is based on actual usage, similarly to a stock market. A new marketplace is emerging.
