The data traffic of broadcasters for the IP streaming of audio and video content has mushroomed in recent years. These days, UHD and HDR video streaming already requires very high bandwidths of over 40 Mbit/s. With future 5G technology, 8K video streams will place even greater, enormous demands on broadcasters.

• This research project focuses on the 5G-based distribution of media content for broadcasters.

• A developer and validation system for “Testing as a Service” is being created.

• NetApps and prototyping of innovative 5G services will play an important role within this.

• SWISS TXT is involved in this project and tests the provision (CDN & streaming) of VoD and live content for mobile use up to 8K.

We have asked SRF, Salt and SWISS TXT about the status of implementation and the new approaches to be expected.
